A bill to preempt local officials’ ability to zone cell towers half a mile or so from our neighborhoods has stalled - but not at the FCC – while laws have passed that promise more cell towers in our national forests and more antennas on existing towers. Will RFK’s study prove the lynchpin that makes Americans care about this danger?

Mr. Coates, an engineer who has invented an alternative to dangerous 5G, thinks RFK has ignored a huge opportunity to weigh in much more substantially on wireless safety. His HHS - and especially its sub-agency FDA - is empowered under a law called P.L. 90-602 to perform a medical and toxicological analysis, a review that should address chronic exposure, children, pregnancy, fertility, cancer, neurological effects, sleep, oxidative stress, DNA damage, modulation, pulsation, and non-thermal mechanisms. Such a review must precede any FCC update of wireless radiation exposure limits that was required in a DC Circuit 2021 decision. This matter is coming to a head, as that same court ordered the FCC last month to respond to the Children’s Health Defense petition for the FCC to end its refusal to comply with the court order.


Updating FCC’s exposure limits in response to a serious HHS/FDA safety review should result in zoning of cell towers farther away from neighborhoods and schools than currently allowed. Congress and industry also need to end their silence on the “LiFi” invented by Mr. Coates. His wireless alternative promises the simplicity of wireless with little or no harm. That is, we can still have the convenience we demand via wireless, but safely. First, though, we need RFK and the FCC to comply with the law.
